@BeAware @lonelyowl I wonder how much of it is active suppression of platform self-hate on other platforms.
In particular, I've seen other people talk about how mentioning Fedi on other platforms causes moderation systems to jump into action and prevent them from talking about it.
Thus, their posts get suppressed automatically if they mention/link to a competing platform.
This would leave just people complaining aimlessly, and nowadays that would be easy to suppress with sentiment analysis.

I gotta say, I never seen people HATE the platform they're on and don't want it to succeed as much as Fedi users hate Fedi.
It's kinda weird. Ngl. There's even an account with 200k+ followers called Fedi.Tips spreading hate towards Fedi possibly succeeding. It's wild.
I fear for the platform's future because of its userbase and that's not something I'd ever think I would say.

@BeAware Douglas Adams defined a nerd as someone who used a telephone to talk about telephones.
I always laugh at people who use the platform they hate to hate on the platform. I view them as unhappy nerds.
Those that like a platform most are the ones who don't talk about it.

@BeAware @lonelyowl A bit more on the conspiratorial side: there's also likely at least some paid/automated Fedi hate-spreading users created by competitors intended to harm Fedi.
This is especially true of larger scale operations, since no rando that hates Fedi is going to spend huge amounts of time hating on it. At some point they'd just move on unless they're getting paid (or left a bot to do their dirty work).
This isn't to say it's all astroturfers/bots, just that they'll add to it.
