     You send me a DM, I send a polite and well-considered reply, and then I see this, posted about seven minutes after you sent the DM.

     Since I stood the machine up, when you say "they", you mean me. I'm qualified to speak for myself about my motivations, so I will. I don't know if you're lying intentionally or you merely never let trivial concerns like "Is this actually true?" or "Am I slandering someone for the sake of an internet fight?" get in the way, but it seems that I was mistaken to assume good faith.

That is linked in the description, which can be read at the domain, or in the nodeinfo ( https://fsebugoutzone.org/nodeinfo/2.1.json ), or sites that make these things visible, like http://demo.fedilist.com/instance/fsebugoutzone.org .

     @trebach @ParadeGrotesque @libredove The actual reason I run it--whoever the "they" represents--the same as the reason I, like @ParadeGrotesque apparently, run Slackware in a lot of places: it's a matter of good taste. (Before the smoke escaped the machine, FSE ran Slackware. It's on CRUX now. :crux:) Having done a lot of Rails at work, and having had considerable difficulty escaping Rails (though I have been a fan of Ruby for a long time and Rails allowed me to write Ruby at work, Rails itself has always been a mess of PHP nonsense combined with Very Enterprise Java bullshit). I am not going to run Rails in my spare time, and I don't want to deploy anything that I actually dislike hacking on. Pleroma's much nicer and much less branding-infested than Mastodon in general, but "It's not Rails" was a pretty big selling point for me.
     
     At any rate, FSE hasn't lived on a VPS for years. It's a physical computer. Before, it was a Dell R820, Postgres and Venti on the host (CRUX) and I had libvirt running the Slackware VM that FSE was on. That box breathed its last in February and has very recently been replaced with an ARM cluster (all of which are running CRUX).
     
     I should say that, had @ParadeGrotesque not either intentionally misled you or perhaps merely spoke with complete disregard for the facts, the reason for the extra domain would be obvious, because it's linked all over: https://blog.freespeechextremist.com/blog/update-and-roadmap.html . Note the conspicuous absence of support for fascism: this is no accident, I do not like fascism. (Go ask a fascist what he thinks of my politics.)

     @sun @ParadeGrotesque You know, it came from me uploading my old followers lists (SPC/SPW/Baest/FSE, `sed 's/shitposter\.club/shitposter.world/;s/freespeechextremist\.com/fsebugoutzone.org/;s/neckbeard\.xyz/bae.st/'|sort|uniq`, I think I did some other stuff, but more or less that), and apparently he doesn't remember that I was following him forever ago, so he sends me a DM about it being suspicious that I'd want to follow him if I'm from FSE. His user-ID on FSE predates the flakeid move, he's actually http://fsebugoutzone.org/users/592 , sandwiched between a bunch of accounts on instances that no longer exist, and predating the first non-me user on FSE. It would actually be kinda cool if paranoia and petty suspicions hadn't turned the interaction into some kinda slow-motion tragedy.
