   I wish Mastodon didn't have a 500 character toot limit as default. I don't really see the point.

   I'd love to write larger essays here, using it like a blog - I regularly have ideas for interesting (I think 😆) posts, but then I think, meh, it's too much of a hassle to split them up into 500 character chunks.

   Why not remove the limit, and do the limiting on the client's side? People could just set their own limit, so that > 500 character toots aren't shown to them, if they so wish.

     @BeAware @ordnung thanks; but I guess my question is more philosophical - why does a social network opt on allowing - as default - only bite size content?

     I feel if anything, this world needs more depth.. like, if Twitter stands for all that is bad with social media, and Mastodon wants to stand for all that is good, having a nauseating character limit is just a weird choice to me!
