Most of the time, yes, but there ARE statistical outliers who really are the best candidate for the position. The problem is that people see the gross mis-hiring, experience often the incompetence of members of marginalized groups, and assume that ALL of them are promoted above their merit, because negative experiences stand out more in our minds than positive ones, for evolutionary reasons.

I'm merely typing truth, born from data. In any diverse IQ sample, whites ON AVERAGE score a little higher (10 points or so) than blacks. Asians score higher than whites ON AVERAGE. But there will always be a FEW blacks that score better than MOST whites. Feel free to fact check.

You may have a point here. I don't generally make it my business to assume others' motives, but they have whole DEI departments telling me that's what they're doing.
