@futurebird @WearsHats @drj We're working hard on that in the plugdata project! https://plugdata.org !
The idea is that it's a programming language for experimental artists first and foremost. Integrating other people's work into your own is easy, including bringing along their documentation and crediting.
It's not cobbled together from something to sell to bosses to make their secretaries use. It's made to be a mind-spaceship.
I don't think we spend enough time talking about how things like game dev engines (Unity), programming languages, and even IDEs shape the creativity and scope of creative and practical applications available through computing history.
Similarly the video editing tools in apps like tiktok have shaped media ... but, their development isn't taken that seriously, or talked about much.
What could development tools made with real care and consideration make possible?
@futurebird @drj Still amazes me that Myst was written in Hypercard.
I miss hypercard.
I want: hypercard but the code part is python-like.
And it has a little SQL database you can put things in if you feel like it.
Basically a user friendly lowgrade application development environment for lazy people.
@icedquinn @futurebird @WearsHats @drj Yep! I mean, technically it's never gone away, but it was languishing without the work that Tim Schoen started putting in to make it work in DAWs, to give it a legible interface, and to dramatically enhance its UX.
