lots of use of this term 'trusted' sources lately
some gov retards were just going on about only using 'trusted' sources like lol, ready, npr, pbs and your local election boards, when looking for news about selections later this year, i shit you not

but they're totally going to decertify the selection, and then scrub the internet of any dissent

btw gab and that faggot torba will do whatever they're told to, and telegram is probably spook shit

@dictatordave @RedpillBot "fact check" sites are calling this "false". It's another case of fact check sites taking something people are talking about and evaluating only the least charitable interpretation of the claim. in the end he said they're going to adjust rankings based on ngos that rate "journalistic integrity"

@sun @RedpillBot >we aren't censoring anything, we're just providing more agreeable and equitable results

the best part is these tricks only push normies who are on the edge, over the edge, but that's a good thing, the more people loose faith in corpos and govs the better

@dictatordave @RedpillBot It would be neat if search engines could link to a third party service for reputation, and you could pick the service that you think is trustworthy not the one that gabriel weinberg thinks is reputatable.

@dictatordave @RedpillBot Kagi actually does have a "small web" option that filters out the big corporate sites although I have not tried it for news.

@sun @RedpillBot or say give some filters to remove all the m5m so you could drill down to other sources

i do find it interesting how 'trusted' ultimately means whatever talking heads are parroting from the ap

@dictatordave yes, I pay for it and it is totally worth the money to me. I don't Google search anymore.

I don't remember what you get at each pricing tier because I just pay for the best one and get everything but they have an AI chatbot which can be useful, and they also have a thing called "universal summarizer" that can summarize articles, which is a really big timesaver. It also lets you block sites from results or to rank up and down sites yourself.

So Google is NOT my friend and I am not allergic to paying for things and Kagi actually works good so it's something I'm willing to pay for it.

Kagi works better. I think you should at least try their free trial even if you don't think you would ever pay for a search engine, just to see how better it is.

@sun i am slightly concerned that you still have to create a log in and even less good about how they're connected to google via that

interesting tho, and i honestly have no problem with a company providing such a service, just seems like a vector to be compromised or to have your search preferences sold to google down the road anyway

@sun @dictatordave w/e. This does not change the fact that the company you are paying for these grand searches is logging your activity- all pinned to a single account.

@dictatordave @Mister_Sunshine yeah. Also like, I calculated the risk of paying for search and decided it was still worth it, I just won’t search for anything risky on it of course. The payoff has been pretty big.

meh, if some group wants to come grab you up they'll do it and plant whatever on your computer anyway, i certainly wouldn't go searching certain arts and crafts without some protections but the isps will rat you out either way

@dictatordave @sun I wonder about the "NSA is monitoring everything" meme because of the sheer technical difficulty of doing that. It's the sort of thing that requires building out huge pipes to NSA data centers, the sort of thing you'd expect hints to leak out when things go wrong.

Metadata collection is much more likely although still has the same problems at a much smaller scale. It would hoover up what you're searching for.

@sun @dictatordave I have concerns about sharing this sort of intimate data of what you're searching with another company based in the California Bay area where they're subject to extreme social pressures.

I find it difficult to believe most of these companies won't eventually contribute to making lists of future war criminals as the KGB did back in the day in case of a Warsaw Pact invasion of Western Europe.

@ThatWouldBeTelling @sun there's no guarantee that some state agent hasn't already accessed their data anyway, but again everything we're saying is being monitored by the nsa at least passively so really we're just talking about keeping data merchants off your details

@sun it seems really nice. I already have been paying for my own domains, email, etc. for many years. Been trying to de-Google/Microsoft my life where possible. Also have been trying to be more self-hosted: local NAS, SyncThing, KeePassXC, markdown notes, etc.
