after German government enforces installation of a heating pump, there's a lively discussion about requiring new apartments to have a bidet to reduce toilet paper and wet wipe waste. a regulation enforcing bidet use could be implemented by 2026.

What's the problem with toilet paper or web wipes, aren't those 100% recyclable?
I mean making them is probably still not eco-friendly — just as purifying the wastewater BTW, and they can still clog the pipes… But that's so minor compared to other shit we have going on in the world :marseyshrug:

@kaia the fact that there are parts of the world where a bidet is not standard equipment still leaves me flabbergasted.

They're made of cellulose so they compost instead. They're mainly made trees and they have to go through a process to get them white, which demands toxic chemicals (they can do it with oxygenated water tho but it cost more so they don't often do it). It's rare to find but you can find tp that hasn't been whited and it's brownish.

So if people use less tp they will be less trees and chems being used.
