I think people want it to be "innate" as an excuse.

Cats have more reasons to fear snakes since fairly typical sized snakes could eat kittens.
Only the very largest snakes could hunt a human child or small person. Most snakes run from us because we're kinda big.
@Pineywoozle @futurebird @david If you are referring to the many depictions of cats jumping at the sight of a cucumber or the like, those all have one thing in common: the cat is surprised by something that wasn't there before.
The shape of the object is basically irrelevant. What spooks them is something suddenly appearing behind them without making any sound or vibration
@futurebird Some cats freak out at anything snake like.I’m fine with ones I know are harmless and often bennificial. @david
