If I were to start a new instance, I'd just use Mastodon with upped character limit and an MRF-like pipeline shoehorned somewhere. Would certainly be a more solid choice than a meme project currently maintained by a single pedophile, fork of said project by another pedophile or another fork by a cryptogrifter vegan.

@mint it'd be nice if there was a less twitter inspired GUI for mastodon tbh, would be pretty interesting if bloat could be hacked to work with it tbh

@mint mastodon barely has configuration options and you can't do things like disable the god damn media proxy. can't even up the character limit without editing some constant in the code somewhere

snac2 is a better choice tbh

@mint the only thing I'll say for it is that it seems pretty stable in operation, which admittedly it a tier-0 feature. but I want to do more in the future than just microblogging stuff with the backend and that's about all mastodon can do without subverting its architecture.

@mint I looked into it as before I got super busy with work I was working on adding some features to pleroma. It's not as easy as it should be but you can add it to the code without a ddl change other than maybe a helpful index. if I had a lot more time I would unwind a few things to make it more flexible for adding new verbs but it is still at least possible where with mastodon it's an architecture change

The only reason I stopped is because the fork I based off of didn't have branches.

Around the same time the poast hack happened Ceruds and I were looking for alternatives to :pleromatan2: We were considering shutting down our pleroma and moving to Mitra. He didn't immediately see a way to terminate your user account.

There's probably a backend way or maybe there is a technical limitation because doesn't it use blockchain for your identity?

Take it with a grain of salt, I haven't looked too much into it.

@mint @pomstan Admittedly, how much higher of a barrier is Rust than Elixir? Especially considering Rust's wide and recent adoption compared to Elixir and even Erlang. The shills are absolutely suspect though, and the project has been infested with trannies for the better part of a decade

@splitshockvirus @Tadano @mint Also, it only takes a few minutes for them to run into a "Pediverse" instance, wignats/schizotroons, anime poster (if you talk online about how anime is pedophile coded), or the "um yikes did you CW/alt text that" crowd and go back to Twitter.

Elon Musk can get away with stuff like that because it's Twitter and your mom uses it.

@splitshockvirus @mint @Tadano Currently you can't delete account yourself, but you can ask your admin (there's a command line tool for this type of tasks).
Self-deletion is not supported because nobody asked for it, but I could add this feature. Mitra doesn't use blockchain for identity, only for payments.
