NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 14:51:41 JST NEETzsche Is there any actual reason to not just lie about your race/sex/etc on job applications? It's a fact they discriminate against straight White men now so either the employer is really invested in the DEI ESG shit or they aren't and therefore "get" why you're bending the rules this way. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 17:45:52 JST NEETzsche @FourOh-LLC I already learned to code. I went to college to do a computer science credentialism and everything. That's the thing. That may turn out to have been a mistake, but in the late 2000s it legitimately didn't appear to be. -

"Learn to code" is the wrong advice when you want to avoid DEI, "learn plumbing" would be better.NEETzsche likes this. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 17:58:17 JST NEETzsche Well, hilariously, I didn't learn to code from college. I learned that on my own. I went to college for credentialism. I got more out of it than that, but that's what I went for.
I also never worked in the tech industry, in spite of my computer science background. I worked in several others.
All that being said, I'm open to learning a new profession entirely, if I have to. But I would prefer not to. I'd really prefer to just "graduate" into some kind of managerial position, as middle aged men are supposed to.

FourOh-LLC (fouroh-llc@pkteerium.xyz)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 17:58:19 JST FourOh-LLC Here is an interesting (to me) PoV: Individuals should move across entire industries during their career. Nothing they "learn" in college or universities are much useful unless the job is disciplined like a surgeon or a marine biologist - you cannot easily put your hands on cadavers or sea mammals.
I have over a decade until i retire, but I have been training and preparing for it for the last decade.

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 18:02:00 JST NEETzsche Well, I'm currently employed, and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to survive this "phase." Hiring incompetents into sinecure positions and then overworking a handful of competents is by definition unsustainable, even if it's for ESG points, so my current hope is that I can float along long enough for that correction to hit and for me to reap the benefits of it.
We'll see though.

I've been out of work now for longer than I'd like to admit outside of a little contract work I've been able to pick up thanks to good friends. It's painfully obvious from my perspective that the game has changed for the worse. Things like my name and the prevalence of LinkedIn in the hiring process make it all too hard to disguise who I am, even if I felt good about that. NEETzsche likes this. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:32:20 JST NEETzsche One thing I'm noticing a lot of companies try to do is get you to code for them on projects they say will take about 4hrs before they even talk to you on the phone. Pass.

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:39:36 JST NEETzsche The business cycle with devs is that we get treated like shit on the downturn and then we get rockstar treatment on the come-up. Every downturn is treated like the apocalypse and every come-up is treated like we're going to be permanent gods in the office.
This is speculation, but I think this dynamic comes from the fact that every company worth a shit needs to have a couple of us, we're absolutely necessary, but the kind of people actually good at this sort of work tend to be abrasive spergs, so they'd really prefer us to just fuck off. When we're not useful they want to basically just get rid of us, but when we are useful, we're so necessary that it's untenable to pretend otherwise, and past bitterness provokes showboating.

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:43:47 JST NEETzsche Yeah. In tech you take mental damage from frustration with the computer not doing what you need it to. Sales is just a stress position. You pay for results with pure cortisol.

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:50:48 JST NEETzsche At one point during a come-up phase the sales guys were so salty that we were shining they decided to change their job title to "Sales Engineer" lol lmao. NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:57:48 JST NEETzsche I use these downturn periods where a job hop is a bad move to just acquire a bunch of "skills." Oh, I hit the OpenAI API to automatically generate article summaries for the company website? I now have 5 years of experience with generative AI, retroactively. I also got one of those bullshit certifications for AI/ML from CalTech and IBM, which sounds super official until you realize you can just watch YouTube videos for the same information. But it's now on my resume forever.
"Generative AI" in this decade is like "Big Data" last decade. It's legitimately the future but it's also going to be absolutely inundated with grifters, and I intend to cash in as much as I can get away with. Might take a year or two for an upswing, tho

Senator_Armstrong (senator_armstrong@seal.cafe)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 19:57:51 JST Senator_Armstrong @NEETzsche @snugglefist @FourOh-LLC they did that to me in reverse last year. Started sending me all this work that was not what they hired me for, and would normally get paid a lot more than they were giving me, and I told them so. So in response they changed our department name to now include terms I never agreed to, and expected to keep getting that higher paygrade work for free at my expense. Not a big mystery why I decided to go elsewhere lol. NEETzsche likes this. -

NEETzsche (neetzsche@iddqd.social)'s status on Thursday, 28-Mar-2024 20:32:45 JST NEETzsche @Senator_Armstrong @snugglefist @FourOh-LLC that's only going to get worse for a good while. The one thing that works to our advantage is that DEI niggers are absolutely ravenous. They're like locusts. They slurp up as much resources as they can get away with, as fast as they can get away with it, with no regard for any long-term consequences. They just pull the levers of power to get the goodies and make no apology.
This sounds bad on the surface until you realize that jews already gave them too much institutional power to prevent them from stuffing every institution with their kin, making the real object of their efforts the office politics and never the service/product itself, and eating everything from the inside out. They're in government too, and they be finna hyperinflate the currency so they can get mo money fo dem programz.
And it's too late to stop it. Jews need blacks to have a certain amount of institutional power and backing to fuck things up for Whitey, but keep a limit on it, so that society doesn't implode outright from Zimbabwe economics. I think they went over that limit the past few years and now blacks have the votes, the clout, the whatever, to force the issue on every little thing all of the time. The regime is basically over.
