I saw some people who I like a lot doing a fundraiser. And it's great they did it. They're definitely doing more good in the world than I am & they should be proud of themselves
It's just the whole thing was so careful, you know? The way they talked about "the humanitarian disaster," it was indistinguishable from talking about a hurricane. And they never mentioned the name of the hurricane (Israel). It felt so pointedly defanged.

I think I've ID'd my issue with this.
Going out there and saying please give to these starving kids, it's a humanitarian crisis, etc., it is all good and necessary
Also, it's completely compatible with the continued function of this horrible blood machine that is starving children and stealing homes. We can keep that running even as good people of conscience fight to limit the harm.
I want the harm to end. I want these kids to have homes and never know gnawing hunger.

I think people are doing very good work within these constraints, but at the same time FUCK THE RESTRAINTS
this is all artificial. Manufactured. Israel is a made up country. And no country is worth murdering a people for. Vague claims about people feeling "unsafe" or saying like "wow, criticizing Israel is a bad look dude"
We have evolved beyond the need for that. This is a fully functional engine of murder and I'm tired of being polite to it. It blunts resistance to it.

To be fair, they also advised people to use a thing that writes letters to lawmakers and to phone bank and such. "Because they could stop this if they wanted to and that would be good." That's about as firm as it got.
And maybe that's as firm as it needs to get. I dunno. I guess I just wish people didn't feel it necessary to walk on eggshells anymore. The people enabling this genocide don't care about hurting anyone's feelings or saying the right words

I don't fault anyone for trying to be polite. Maybe some playing along with respectability politics is needed when people are still losing their jobs over this.
But there's also a part of me that says don't you just want to go ape shitt.
I believe in the power of solidarity to change our physical reality. I don't like blunting people against feeling that solidarity. I don't want to throw people aid as they're killed quickly or slowly. As they have for nearly a century.

USreal doesn't particularly want to be thought of as responsible for feeding all these refugees, and tossing them to the mercy of the international community might be in keeping with their genocide. They still get their lebensraum
I want people fed, of course. I hate we have to do it in a way that allows polite, pleasant accomodations for the feelings and plans of the entity starving them.
I think it's easier & better, where possible, to say fuck it I won't play that game

@InternetEh yeah I've come to be very wary of the heavy policing of what is acceptable criticism of Israel
you don't see this kind of kid glove handling of the feelings of Palestinians that is expected for Israelis (and let's face it, white Jews in the west)
any sort of muddying of the water and being like "oh it's complicated" in cases of oppression is going to always serve the oppressor
