   young white female gay male teacher complains about rapid student behavior deterioration. Makes a good case for homeschooling

   (don't feel too sorry for him, he appears to be into drugs, lgbt, and game of thrones)

   How much has student behavior changed in the last decade?

   here's a list of some things I've noticed:

   1. I cant get the class to be quiet for even 5 minutes for me to go over attendence/instructions for the day. They don't even make an effort to discreetly talk, they'll have a full blown conversation I can hear from across the room. By the time I walk over and tell them to be quiet, another group will start talking.
   2. Complete lack of respect for authority, with some kids being straight up non compliant. Majority will agree with my request, but still continue whatever it is they were doing the moment I turn my back.
   3. Constant commentary on anything I say. I told a loud kid to stop screaming, and another told me "that's not actually screaming". Why are you giving your input??
   4. A host of destructive behavior. Slamming computer mouses, mostly when they are playing a game and rage when they die/lose. Throwing papers/pencils/anything they can get their hands on. A student keeps unplugging all the cables from the back of computers not being used. Male students always try to rough house by grabbing eachother or trying to wrestle.
   5. Constant slurs, especially homophobic or sexist ones, this especially bothers me as a gay man.
   6. Accusing me of racism when I try giving discpline. A girl told a loud student to be quiet, he told her "shut up bitch", I inquired why he said that & he told me she said the N-word. When i tried asking her about it he left the class without permission. I locked another students computer for using profanity, and he said I did it because he's black.

     I still remember having a student who was just a constant thorn in my side. Rude, mouthy, disrespectful… pick a word, he was it. He got sent out a lot at one point because I couldn’t honestly handle his disruptions. So one day, he tells me to fuck off because I was racist POS. Off to the office. Three minutes later he comes back with a cocky smirk on his face with a note for me. It read “stop sending students to the office. You’re doing it too much.”
     
     Whatever vestige of authority I had vanished like a fart on the wind after that. I was the problem, not the asshole little banger who made it his mission to mess with my classroom. There is nothing more demoralizing than admin who back the students because they want you to be friends with the students.
     
     Fuck that. I’m supposed to be their teacher, not their buddy. I survived, but it left some pretty deep scars on my psyche.

     @mrsaturday @billiam @Hoss @LouisConde @VidMasterEon the republican meta game of no child left behind was that it created "objective" standards by which a school was failing, which they could then de-credential, and replace with vouches for private schools. schools were experiencing decline well before NCLB although I'm certain it made things worse, yes.

     @billiam @VidMasterEon @Hoss @LouisConde Yeah, this all reeks of No Child Left Behind and the "school to prison pipeline" bullshit you heard during the Obama administration. Anyone with two eyes could see that teaching to standardized tests and refusing to punish problem students was going to turn schools into Lord of the Flies.
