Yeah makes sense to me. Again tho, it's like I always say - folks are choosing fascism. They're choosing fascist conspiracy theories. They're choosing to align with fantasy to get "the other." To the point that they'll abandon and even murder their own families, to maintain that choice.
I don't think it's helpful to frame it in terms of mental health; it's "me."

OTOH just buying into all the authoritarian madness probably explains it. Maybe you're the one who brought up the kids. Fine. Recently one of the center-right polling companies did a focus group of 15 women who voted for MAGA fascism in 2020, and asked them about abortion rights. Most of them agreed losing Roe wasn't great, but also 13 of the 15 said they're still voting Trump. Several more or less made it clear that they preferred his promise to get their enemies, more than they were bothered by restricting women's rights.

I absolutely "loved" the right-wing pundits on TV who immediately pointed out how Biden didn't do anything about it earlier, stated as a valid excuse not to sign up for anything any longer anyway in order to maintain this very "reasonable" deadlock on everything until they get it all. Really pays off to offer bipartisan "compromises" that are in reality just 100% fascist MAGA shit. 🤦♂️
