I lived in Budapest a long time ago, and I was never by any means fluent, but there are still words that come out of my mouth in Hungarian even before English. "Istenem" for "My God," for one. And whenever I get something in my eye, I complain, "Mindig van valami a szememben." We may never know why. Languages are weird and wonderful things.

I want to ask how long have you lived there? Was there a reason why you chose there?

Rebecca Wallace (wallacewords@mastodon.sdf.org)'s status on Thursday, 07-Mar-2024 02:50:06 JST Rebecca Wallace @joeo10 I lived in Budapest for about two years, after going there as a traveler and falling in love with the place. It's a beautiful and fascinating city, with a real mix of architecture, and Hungarian is so different that it's a wonderful adventure for anyone who likes language. Great pastries, too. 😊
