For the last few years I have been really annoyed with companies that advertise so called "Gaming routers". None of them are ever capable of running any games!
So @manawyrm and I built what I consider to be the first real gaming router.
It is based on a classic, the TP-Link TL-WDR4900 WLAN router with an AMD Radeon external GPU connected via PCIe and can run GTA.

An off-the-shelf mini PCIe to PCIe eGPU adapter can then be plugged into the breakout to interface with a normal desktop GPU. -

I decided im not good enough at soldering to risk it in the end likes this. -

since this is a PowerPC computer technically, would it be possible to run some form of AmigaOS on it? maybe AROS (not aware of anything else that's open source)clacke likes this. -

honestly I can already see how this project would go, you find a thing that needs porting/fixing, you get that done, that just reveals more stuff that needs fixing/porting, and you repeat that for a month just to stop and wonder what you're doing with your life porting AROS to a router jury rigged with a Radeon graphics card -

Manawyrm | Sarah (manawyrm@chaos.social)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Mar-2024 06:38:54 JST Manawyrm | Sarah @Reiddragon @Toble_Miner @lispi314 possible — definitely. Would require a bunch of work though for platform support. Things requiring floating point instructions would probably also break rather harshly (which would be sad because you couldn‘t use existing software).
Theoretically this platform also supports virtualization, but the floating point problems still persist there :(
