@oliver well, that's the problem with an EV, we're not runing at like 12VDC here, some are up to 800VDC.

The amount of energy that can go through you at 800V is pretty not fun.

@sickburnbro They could make them repairable by shops or the end user instead of a $60,000 black box that can't be serviced and must be replaced if the skid plate gets a dent in it.

@Ariovistus @oliver well, for better or worse, they don't have the same current capacity as the subway lines.

@sickburnbro @oliver There are tram/subway systems that run on voltages like that. Go look up videos of people touching the wire/third rail.

      It sounds like an explosion...

@sickburnbro the only feature that's even remotely desirable is the ability to refuel at home in the garage, and i absolutely don't want a giant lithium ion battery charging in an attached garage.
range and charge time are obvious deal breakers. advertising 400 miles of range is just not good enough when it's gonna take the better part of an hour to recharge. it gets even worse with how weather affects range so badly.
the majority being sedans and small crossovers are deal breakers for me, as are the 1/2 ton pickups that cost more than 1 ton pickups loaded with every optional feature the dealer sells.
excessive computers and touchscreen nonsense on them are a problem, but internet connected computers are an oh hell no.

@skylar @sickburnbro the only thing remotely desirable for me is the fact that you can use some of them as a giant battery backup for your house but then I’d just get a generator

@sapphire @skylar they aren't even really a good source for home power, because they're DC which means you need a big ass inverter, which last I checked aren't cheap
