Numerous leftist leaders historically have encouraged military service.
If you can get weapons and combat training for free, sanctioned by the state, then why not?
The revolutions need people with discipline and the capability of self defense.

@BigTittyBimbo It's a mixed issue, I feel.
Living in a country with conscription, the idea that the state tells you to serve itself without asking you is something that doesn't sit well with anarchists, even if they would find the skills being taught useful.
While I personally think that going through military service isn't always the worst thing in the world, I do think there's a case to be made against the armed wing of the state.
@BigTittyBimbo In Finland's case specifically, conscription gives you two choices for service... Either military or civil.
Civil service trains and prepares one to work in service jobs that are critical to society, such as schools, nursing homes, kindergartens, libraries, etc during war time.
While it is... Noble in a way, some refuse to participate in civil service as well, because that too is dictated to you by the state.
And if they refuse, it's varying amounts of jail time.
@BigTittyBimbo And while I'm not a pacifist myself, I do understand those who simply don't want to take any part in the use of lethal force (or an institution that wields it), whether directly or indirectly.
While I don't necessarily wholeheartedly agree, I think an individual's right to decline any sort of service to the state is... Fundamentally human.
@miiamustang Fully agree with what you're saying about being unwilling to fight or serve in what is essentially a band of thugs with guns. But you're only going to get a revolution with groups willing to defend themselves against these people. The only way you can realistically get the weapons training, tactical thinking and self reliance is by either being the most self-disciplined teen to of ever lived, grown up privileged or to join up.
That aside, this lack of understanding as to why people might join up at all is kinda goofy given how many people join the military because of a bad home-life or familial expectations. If you can't extend forgiveness to someone who did something dumb as a kid, are you really going to build a forgiving and loving society? We already live in a world where people cheer for harsher sentencing and get mad at money for rehab programs.
@BigTittyBimbo In the US it's... Mixed...
And watching some discussions surrounding vets and whether or not they "deserve solidarity" can get... Brutal at times.
As an outsider, I don't really have anything meaningful to add to that topic.
Though I will say, I am willing to give people the chance to redeem themselves and grow as people... I think it's nice to give people a chance.
