@SuperDicq Sure, but I've found that google results are really terrible now, although not as bad as duckduckgo now it seems (after all, I can search "gnu users who have never heard of gnu" and get the page).
@sepples Kagi is unacceptable as the only payment method is "Stripe", which doesn't work without proprietary software and having every single one of your searches tied to your identity is a terrible idea.
@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com As I understand it there's one issue with hosting a searx instance yourself and that is that if you do that your search results will be less anonymous than using a public instance.
Searx is a meta search engine so it gets results from many other search engines and combines them. If you're the sole user of a searx instance all the traffic from that instance are your personal searx queries, they do not get thrown into the same pile with thousands of other users, making them anonymous, like they do on the public instances
So if you host a searx instance, it's in your best interest to share it with other people.
