Men have done murders for money since the dawn of time. They're enslaved people, fought wars, established whole economic and social systems of subjugation for money. At one point, we sailed wood boats off "the edge of the world" with no idea what might be on the other side, for money. It's literally history's oldest motivation. It is naïve to assume men wouldn't do fascism and a little light treason for money. It's why they always have.

(I'm not a Leninist, but in so much as I am an amateur historian, it is a Marxist/materialist understanding of history that informs my studies. I could literally spend the next month providing examples of why the extraction of wealth and resources are the critical factors in the vast majority of events in human history. Just because capitalists scoff at the idea they're all greedbags and our leaders always have been, doesn't make it wrong; consider the source - yeah, people motivated by money.)

@AnarchoNinaWrites Statistically, some are probably doing it for 'love of the game' (hatred), but yeah, mostly it's for money, or as a youtuber I enjoy has called it, 'power coupons'.

@Oggie How do you keep score of who is winning the game? Money.
I mean you can say "power" as well, but I'll ask "the power to do what?" And the answer is, almost always, extract wealth. That's the history, or at least the last 3,000 or so years of it we've recorded/uncovered.

@AnarchoNinaWrites especially since money survives fascism really well. Look at all the companies and families that came out of the fascism of the Third Reich with injections of wealth founded on mass stealing, slavery and worse.

I recently got into an argument with a rather learned fellow, who took objection to my analysis that the 2nd Invasion of Iraq was "about the oil." He didn't disagree it was a factor, but he was insistent that George Bush's religious beliefs were equally important. At which point I asked him if he thought Dick Cheney and Halliburton cared about God, or if they simply used God to get a weak and feckless leader to greenlight their quest to pillage a whole country. He seemed annoyed but had no reply

(Before some clever grad student jumps in - this is not an argument about abolishing money; it's an argument about abolishing the rich. If you understand that money is power, and 3,000 years of recorded and uncovered history say it is, then you can understand why it's a colossally bad idea to let the worst people in our society have too much of it. Sometimes the complex answer exists only to distract you from the brutal truth right in front of your nose. Who told you it wasn't about money?)
