Okay, here it goes, hot take on messy progesterone brain: I get really really irked when I see middle class, educated, white trans people complain about Drag.

And I apologize, I love you friends, but this is something I've heard over and over and everything I hear people say is so damn wrong. And I'm going to just rant at you for a hot second so maybe my stupid adhd trauma brain will let me sleep.

Who are the majority of drag performers? BIPOC working class gender non-conforming queer people.

Who are the majority of people in the audience at most drag shows?
Gays, lesbians, and trans people, many of then working class.

How do I know? Because I actually participate in gay and lesbian communities in person in multiple countries.

Drag queens raise tens of thousands of dollars for trans youth in San Diego every year. For that matter, drag artists are the ushers, crowd control, and go-fers that make local lgbtq events run.

@JoscelynTransient im reminded that for a hot minute in the mid 00s, the transgender umbrella was a beautiful brief glimpse of actual unity, including crossdressers, drag king and queens, enough to be enshrined by Serano in the Whipping Girl in 2007 as "how things are". And then the standard cycle repeated and new babies came in with internal validity pains and desire to rebrand and it was all tore down once again because this time transsexual was the painful old word that defined at least one mean non passing trans woman (real or fictional) in the mind each baby trans who didnt like the look of the ghost of christmas future, and so transgender was now the correct word for everyone except who let these people into the club? So back out out out you go drag and crossdressers.

Its never in the trans community's interest for there to be an iron wall between us and the spaces that those who are gender questioning/playing most often congregate, we should be opening paths for those who fear they are unwelcome or not allowed. The battle we have is within ourselves to recognise that our own self validity of gender only feels compromised by our minds interpreting the rough shapes cast by those who play in the dressing up box. And sadly as one group reaches the point where their self validity becomes strong enough to see through that, the cycle repeats and a new wave of babies appear in pain and looking to push away anything that hurts.

@miriamrobern @JoscelynTransient no absolutely no idea, never heard anyone refer to it or use it. I sometimes wonder if the book the image is from might have invented the term on another page or perhaps the writer was part of a community where a few people were using it but it never caught on.

@siege @JoscelynTransient Tangential, but this great infographic includes “midlings” and I dont think I’ve encountered that one before and can’t find any trace online any more. Do either of you know if it is/was, as one might assume, an androgyny thing, or something wlse?
