     @DrBtc @Evil_Bender @KiKi88 @fal1026 @feralphilosophernc @Frondeur @givenup Outside of getting a goose or building/growing overhead protection, you can let a rooster age to a couple years and they'll chase off any hawk. My favorite solution is making friends with the local crows, but you can't really do that until you have more food than your chickens will eat.

     but i figured if i was gonna start and with the intention of lettingthem hatch eggs to expand the flock and have fresh hens before girls go spent, that i wanted a pure flock with a breed tha twas quiet and docile

     I don't disagree. We live in the city, so nothing is intended to be long term with this flock. When we get moved away, we'll have more of a dynasty mindset with the next flock. Right now the wife is still enrolled l enamored with the idea of having varied egg colors.

     I just wish it was my own backyard eggs. These are from a friend's chickens. They switched feed and their chickens have gone crazy with eggs. My wife won't let me buy chickens
