     @sebhans @nixCraft I've had personal experience with web devs who can develop something in php but not understand how to deploy it so... I would actually agree with the separation.

     Web Development == Building and maintaining websites and web applications including front-end, back-end, or full-stack (both).

     That is what I think. What do you think?

     @nixCraft It seems to me, "designing, coding, and testing software apps" (including maintenance) is a superset of "building and maintaining websites and web applications including front-end, back-end, or full-stack (both)". Maybe with the exception of building websites by using a CMS without coding anything, which I would not consider Web Development either, even though your definition would cover it.

     @sebhans @nixCraft I agree with you. It is a superset, but I think the separation is justified in a poll. Some people only see themselves as web developers and not software developers, and perhaps for good reason.

     @dashrandom @nixCraft This separation of ops from dev is quite common and is not limited to web development. That's why DevOps is a thing. People are trying to overcome the problems this separation entails.

     If there is a difference between Software Development and Web Development, it is probably one of mindset: "I know one platform, and that is the web, hence I am a Web Developer." vs. "I am a Software Developer and can develop on any platform. It just so happens that it is the web this time."
