    @lowqualityfacts Before Netflix and fast broadband, the only way you could watch movies online was via Terminal. Someone has recreated that experience for posterity.

      I linux this tech is still built in. No one had to recreate it. You just run any media player and use ascii lib to display it.

      This was never used for streaming though.

      Most of us used it just for fun cause we were terminal warriors. There were many people who choose to not run a windows system and lived entirely in the terminal... We even had framebuffers that would have made this look like normal video but we were just too nerdy.

      As far as I know this was never used out of necessity.
