@WarnerCrocker I used to be a big Flipboard fan and user, but then there was an app change that brought ads and content I didn't want. Eventually dropped it all together.
@WarnerCrocker I’m on Flipboard but I don’t see how it’s linked to Mastodon. What’s the advantage to posting a link from there which is just a link to Medium?
@davidtoddmccarty I may be wrong, but I think the goal is you put it out once and then it federates where you want it to federate to. The choice of who you distribute to, and who distributes to you is still yours in the end.
@WarnerCrocker I don’t get the whole federation thing, tbh. I don’t want someone’s instagram (Pixelfed) on my feed. That’s a different area of my life. Why does everyone keep trying to make the super platform? I don’t care who owns it, or doesn’t.
@WarnerCrocker@chessert If you're referring to ads on the websites you find on Flipboard try out reader mode. You can also mute websites that have too many ads. That also sends a signal to us to review whether or not we should really be recommending content from that site. Unfortunately many web sites are now drowning in ads and popups.
