Discarded products are often viable goods that are often tossed prematurely.

By repairing them, we will save €12 billion for consumers in the EU per year!

Soon, you will benefit from new consumer rights that make repairs more appealing and straightforward after the legal guarantee has expired.

Together, we can make a difference.

@EU_Commission yeah great idea, why EU is throwing (exporting at very low cost) banned old cars then?

      Yes.
Also, regarding the #climate, giving in to the pressure of the #CarIndustry is, even now, not just in retrospect, one of the greatest mistakes regarding the #climate. These old cars with highly polluting #CombustionEngines will run for decades in regions like the #RussianFederation or #Africa while also greatly boosting the number of cars per capita globally.

The correct way to deal with this would have been to force the..

...#CarIndustry, which had been lying about real NOx and other #GreenhouseGasEmissions (#GGE) for decades to develop an upgrade kit for each and every car they sold that does not meet environmental standards in real-life use. It was mass fraud, so they should be made to pay up.

As there were no regulations nor government subsidies, as there had been in the 1980's for #CatalyticConverters, upgrade companies either shelved many of their developments or went bust.//

I am not sure if I understand you point correctly, but I think we are on the same page on this.
We live in #OneWorld and pollution, as well as the anthropogenic #ClimateCrisis is global in reach, too. Building better products/appliances for some (richer) countries and exporting (non-upgraded) old products to other countries will enormously increase pollution by a) augmenting the total number of products in use and b) not reducing their emissions through upgrades.

@HistoPol @EU_Commission I do understand the point, but we can apply this "consumption", "lobby" and "pollution" to any old fridge or appliance, this not address the main question... why Europe export at low cost (even in a costly way) olds cars to others countries... does it stop to produce polution outside EU?
