Here’s some Sunday Morning Reading to share on a day when the political world is fixated on diatribes about age, infirmity, and a tottering judicial system that’s too long in the tooth and already rotted out with decay. Meanwhile a majority of eyeballs are getting ready to tune all of that out and watch some talented young athletes bash each other’s brains out on a playing field, hoping for a moment of glory.

@WarnerCrocker That news media extinction level event article in The New Yorker is grim. I read it in Apple News after hitting their paywall from your link. Which says a lot about the problem.
I wish 99c micropayments for an article where a thing. With about the first third free. Of course that would likely lead to structural changes that put interesting facts and opinions below this digital paywall fold.

@ianRobinson Yup. I agree. It’s an insane world that’s slipping away (if it hasn’t already) being made more so in self-defeating attempts at keeping it sane (and profitable.)

@ianRobinson @WarnerCrocker Agreed. And micropayments would be nifty, but wherever they’ve been tried, they’ve failed.

@dsilverman @ianRobinson I’m in the same place. I wouldn’t sub to Apple News if it wasn’t for the Apple One bundle that I use for other things and I’d gladly do a micropayments route, if one could exist. I don’t think that will ever come to pass though. Too many chefs want to run that kitchen.

@ianRobinson @WarnerCrocker There are so many, many ways to get around paywalls (though some are pretty impervious) that most articles online are readable. The annoying thing about Apple News+ is that it paywalls a lot of articles that are available for free on the native websites. That’s one reason I won’t pay for it (and I pay for a fair share of online news). It’s kind of a ripoff.

@dsilverman @WarnerCrocker It’s in my Apple One sub. I’m in the middle of a process about whether to drop to a lower tier that doesn’t have it. There might be enough value to keep it. New Scientist for example.
I don’t want to get round paywalls. I want to pay what I think is appropriate.
