   I used to have a lot of pirated TV shows and movies that I lost ages ago and sure they weren't in the best quality but some things are just hard to find anymore.
   
   I was in a situation of "storage was getting a bit too expensive, and streaming is now available but who cares" so when my storage got pretty full I started deleting old TV shows and movies I didn't think I'd watch anymore.
   
   100% regret on that. I've recovered a lot of content but some older things are hard to get or what you end up is out-of-order seasons of TV shows which is highly annoying.

     @feld I need to re-download all the Seinfeld episodes. I used to have them all from Kazaa. It took over a year to download the final one.
     
     This time around I'll probably get the Japanese dub.

     @feld I’m also a hoarder and running out of space is a real issue, not to mention backups... BTW, I’ve had some luck with archive.org for old movies but not tv shows.

     It’s hard to watch anything below 720p with the displays we have these days (and I guess it’ll only get worse).

     @oz i know, and my wife didn't believe me. She was annoyed I was downloading a lot of stuff in 4K but then we stumble upon some 720p or even 480p content and she's like "wow, I didn't realize how bad this quality was"

     @vascorsd also the fucking subtitles. Dear god why are there so many copies of subtitles out there that are not synced, and why don't we have an AI tool to analyze audio and subtitles to make them auto sync. It should only require processing like a 30s clip of audio to figure out the correct offset.
     
     Make a tool for this and you could be an internet celebrity.

     @feld I went exactly through the same experience some years ago. I was a bit of a hoarder of some stuff, tv shows and anime and tired of looking at the disk space always decreasing. Eventually I got tired of managing it and rationalised that everything is online and more and more stuff was streaming and I could always find a site for the things I wanted. I kinda regret it. Many things are very hard to find in quality I like and some are lost. Sites keep going down to 🥲

     @feld you made me remember some painful memories about that 😖.

     Subtitles being different by some seconds of other things because the rips were different between scene groups.

     Sometimes you were able to sync by playing with the delays at the beginning but after a while it would be totally unsynced by a few seconds again and impossible to sync 🤣.

     Nobody is gonna solve useful problems with AI since it's still in the bullshit phase of the tech and techbros are too horny for it yet.
