    wonder how well some of those bizzare pathfinding algorithms work for pcb routing.

    i remember a diffusion pathfinding thing that would intelligently route pacman ghosts to surround the pacman. it was just based on filling a grid up with scores and "diffusing" the scores across the map.

    not sure what good this would do actually :neocat_thonk: trying to path multiple traces at once seems a bit :comfywoozy:

      @icedquinn optimal pcb routing feels like one of those "I'll need a research team and 20 years" kinds of problems

      @auroz topological routers get close :blobcatthinkOwO:

      @auroz although i don't know how much people care about 'optimal' traces really. i've seen people hate on autoroute just as a concept. i've seen some say they actually really like it as a module in a toolbox.

      kind of just skimming the algorithm options. TopoR seems to do pretty well though, there was a whole motherboard project that was autorouted just with that once.

      kind of just skimming the existing algs at the moment

      @Vo heh he mentions TopoR.

      i would probably use a router like that since i don't really care what the traces look like. sadly there was only one foss one and its long abandoned. would have to pull up the old papers and fiddle a bit.

      @icedquinn autorouting is pretty good these days, on a small enough scale.
