:dancing_panda: Creation of the Gods I is on Netflix! Just in time for Chinese New Year. This is the xianxia I remember - where the gods care for something beyond romance, but is there to guide and protect humanity. Based on the 16th-century Chinese novel, "Investiture of the Gods".
@seanbala@liztai This is a fun Lunar New Year question for #cdrama fans: Which drama would you recommend first to a newbie?! #xianxia light genre- The Starry Love #xianxia more tradnl - Love & Destiny #wuxia - Blood of Youth or Joy of Life or Sword Snow Stride Historical - Longest Day in Changan Court - Rise of Phoenixes Coming of Age - Go Ahead Mystery - The Bad Kids
@AnnaAnthro@seanbala #xianxia light genre- all modern xianxia. Love and Redemption. #xianxia more tradnl - Lol my traditional version is the Eight immortals or Creation of the Gods. All the xianxia these days are considered the lite version. #wuxia Mysterious Lotus casebook Court - Three Kingdoms Coming of Age - i don't watch this genre 😄 Mystery - Ripe Town
@AnnaAnthro@seanbala it's more like traditional xianxia rarely is about the romance between gods. It is always about the gods saving humanity in some way. Legend of the Eight Immortals was the first to break the mould and Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms was the one that made it so popular that xianxias became a copy of it 😅
@liztai@seanbala I love Tradnl Xianxia watchers rxns to Lite versions: ‘40 episodes & 12 core characters?! Bwahaha 120 episodes & 40 core and a notebook to keep up with all the different reincarnations!’
@AnnaAnthro@seanbala i think Creation of The Gods (the movie) is the first one in a long while that can be called traditions xianxia. How i missed this 😭
@liztai@AnnaAnthro Just got a chance to really look at this - you guys are so awesome! Thank you for your suggestions. Will add these to my list and get watching. I'm excited to watch a genre I have absolutely zero experience with! 🤗
@seanbala@liztai Liz has excellent taste in dramas so her blog will be a big help as you dive in! I am in awe of folks who can analyze & blog a series. I promise to fangirl post about great cinematography, or great acting or cool plots on the #cdrama hashtag when I come across a good one!
@liztai@AnnaAnthro Just wanted to thank both of you for sharing such a wonderful, extensive list of CDramas - I've filed them in a note for later! And I'll add @liztai 's blog to my list. Got to find a good blog feed manager....
@liztai@AnnaAnthro Wanted to thank you for the reminder about Feedly. I had it YEARS ago but I dusted it off and started over. Good thing is that because I had it so early in its development, I've been grandfathered into the older restrictions so I can make more than three folders without paying.
I'm also trying out Ionreader too in parallel to see if I like one or other more. On the whole, Feedly feels cleaner and more intuitive but Ionreader has more features for free like notes. 1/2
@seanbala@AnnaAnthro yea I am likeyou as well, grandfathered into the older restrictions. If you are still exploring, there’s also a Fediverse friendly one called @omnivore
@liztai@AnnaAnthro@omnivore HAHA - I was also going to mention in a second comment that I found @omnivore this week as well and am giving it a try. I love it!
I did try using it as an RSS feed reader but I didn't like the organization quite as much.
The other cool thing that I did with the RSS readers was add Mastodon feeds. I added @camelliakyoto to my travel feeds and @UncannyMagazine to my reads folder.
@liztai@AnnaAnthro@omnivore@camelliakyoto@UncannyMagazine It may sound silly but I am genuinely excited about the possibilities of these apps. I feel like I encounter so much information day-to-day and I get frustrated that I can't really process it or make use of it.
@seanbala I can understand it!Pocket has been life changing for me. Now every article I bump into on the Internet I save it on Pocket. @omnivore does that too, it's just that i'm too entrenced in Pocket now to move lol
@liztai@omnivore I was the same with Pocket. I just wanted to start over and I found that Pocket made it a bit hard to start over. Also, so many of the apps put some of the best features behind a paywall. Understandable, of course. But I like how Omnivore is so fully featured right out of the gate. It's kind of funny - I feel like because they give so much for free, I actually feel more encouraged to support them financially. 🤷
