@thegreatape@creamqueen the one that finally got me was getting redpilled on the absolutely preposterous amount of information windows sends out of your computer. It is logging every keystroke and sending it off to a Microsoft server for analysis. Literally unbelievable until you see it happening in wireshark.
@thegreatape I would suggest listening to GNU podcasts instead - many of them are about trying to bring more freedom to the users instead of getting more users.
The kernel, Linux doesn't even meet the "open source definition" as it's proprietary software.
@pro@creamqueen@mischievoustomato@thegreatape windows 11 is incredibly sluggish. Your programs start up slow. Right click anywhere is slow. Opening explorer windows can sometimes stall for up to 10 seconds (not rare, happens maybe once per day to me). Disk access and transfer is slower than ever. All of this on a 13900HX with 64 gigs of ram and a Samsung 980 pro.
The computer just runs hot all the time. Sitting idle will typically be 60 C. It's 35 C running Linux on the same machine. Elevated temps were issues on win 10 as well but not this bad.
Right click UI also sucks but that's a minor complaint by comparison. Also making various settings, even very silly things like recycle bin, harder to access. Settings are a MESS. Volume is difficult to configure without everything resetting when you switch devices.
I play games on a separate desktop running windows 10 because I haven't wanted to mess with proton yet. People in the foss space are never honest about the problems they encounter so when people say "gaming just werks" I do not believe them.
@RustyCrab Damn, they must have an incredible deal with intel if even very new hardware runs slower despite a drop in visual requirements, or are they just incredibly incompetent?
You should play games that respect your freedom instead of proprietary malware games, but WINE+DVXK+esync (Proton) now runs proprietary malware incredibly well and keeps improving (the main blocker is digital handcuffs that sabotage the game and prevent it from running).
Yes, even if all you care about is bing-bing wahoos, you now get a better "gaming experience" that windows, looking at functionality only - but clearly, taking a fully free software OS and soiling it with proprietary malware is a bad thing.
1. What is so unique about Windows 11? Is this like how every Republican candidate for President is Literally Hitler, but when he dies he suddenly becomes That Old Good Republican Quite Unlike The Literally Hitler of Today? I remember people kvetching about Windows 95.
