Pluggable algorithms is more interesting than "no algorithms."

I never log into youtube. I used a Piped frontend, I can still get the trending videos, but it is a list of videos of the whole site, not tailored to me.

I wish there was a service that could recommend videos based on what my friends are watching.

If you can convince them to use your instance of Invidious, the popular tab is just that. A mix of new videos from subscribed channels the instance checks.

@dragnucs if it were pluggable you could do it based on whatever criteria you wanted

@Moon thoritically, could be good to see what your friends are watching. However. I know what my friends watch. I am not interested in that and do not want it. They watch tons of crap in tiktok, Instagram and YouTube shorts. You would need brain surgery after watching same videos. SPC posts are magnitudes better.

@dragnucs a service that ingests what you are currently watching and keeps track of who is friends with whom. then it provides a feed that can be injected into a tube site to show those recommendations.

that way it's not connected to just one site.

@Moon so maybe you need to elaborate more on the pluggable part. How do you imagine it?

@Moon could make a good research subject for fedi and a masters degree student. A bit complicated how all relationships should be stored and managed. Since on fedi friends is a broad concept. Are they mutuals? In case of peertube, subscriber or creators? Or siblings subscribers.

The idea is nice by the way.

      >create an invidious instance
      >have your friends follow their channels on it
now you kind of see what your friends are watching (or at least what their feed looks like)
obviously this doesn't account for non-followed watches (e.g. once off viral videos from a small channel)

@billiam @mangeurdenuage would like to not have to rely on just a single invidious instance

Didn't XHTLM implemented something similar in it's original draft ?
