    Anyone who spread the lie that you never need to reboot Linux should be sentenced for treason

      @BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online Then why does my server have over 600 days of uptime?

      @SuperDicq You probably haven't updated it in 600 days

      @SuperDicq @BrodieOnLinux Because you're not running kernel updates? There actually aren't a lot of distros utilizing the kernel live patching feature.

      @bitals@fediverse.bitals.xyz @BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online Having to reboot my server because a severe CVE that actually affects me has been found and fixed is something that is very rare indeed.

      Keep in mind that this only counts for kernel stuff only. If other packages on my system get updated I will just restart that specific daemon without rebooting.

      @SuperDicq @BrodieOnLinux
      It does still have pretty important stuff in point releases though. But I guess it depends on your workload. If you exclusively run it as a VM/container host and nothing is on bare metal, than it's mostly fine, until there's a sandbox-bypassing CVE found. And they do get found, exploited and fixed.

      @bitals@fediverse.bitals.xyz @BrodieOnLinux@linuxrocks.online I've never heard of a filesystem update that puts you at real risk if you don't immediately update it.

      There also are filesystem updates to necessitate a reboot lol, what a time to be alive.
