@AlgorithmWolf in my opinion older versions of Linux desktop were better. They have all been taken over now by "same-ey" UI designers who have dumbed them down tremendously.

@Moon Yeah. Linux desktop peaked in 2005 it just peaked like there's nothing new to be done at that point, you could just improve the existing stuff or make better stuff but they just made worse ones

@meso I love artists, some of my best friends are artists, but every UI designer I have ever worked with had a huge ego and didn't value the cost of changing everything to satisfy the desiger's job satisfaction at changing everything every time they get a new project.

@birdulon @meso @Moon
For most desktop activities, Windows is still better than Lunix.
Not on the server though. Scary thing is that I can get a server to do pretty much anything regardless of the OS, you just have to jump through some corporate hoops.

@meso @Moon You had me until
>now it looks worse and is less usable than even the worst version of Windows
Fuck no, I still have PTSD from when I gave Windows 8 an honest go, and my occasional usage of Win10 and Win11 always leaves me disappointed despite setting my expectations as low as humanly possible.

@Moon @AlgorithmWolf @romin I wish OpenTracker from BeOS had been ported to Linux.
