been a week since I said this, but once DEI takes a court loss, things will get crazy, fast.

@doctorsex I don't know what victory for them looks like, but any court loss in terms of pay/reinstatment/etc will cause businesses to jettison DEI offices like nuclear waste

They've been ramping up the rhetoric around this stuff but they've been running it in very counterproductive directions. I'm curious to see what such a "victory" looks like, what it's grounds are, and what the system is willing to sacrifice (in terms of exercising power vs. Maintaining some semblance of legitimacy)

Maybe I'm getting too cynical but I would not be shocked if they were going to try and keep it around with a different name or change it just enough to keep it. They're not going to sacrifice something like DEI unless they absolutely have to, and it will be done very, *very* grudgingly.

@doctorsex I agree with the caution, but the way I look at it is that as soon as it becomes something that is a risk, it will be a huge break on fun.
Between how the courts have dealt with the gun laws and the college discrimination, my feeling is any but the largest companies will not think it is worth the risk.

That's fair. I think it's reasonable to assume that (at least in most cases) the ideological compliance comes essentially from extortion in the form of ESG and similar things. Once you start chipping away at the one thing that's keeping a not insignificant number of peole in line you run into problems. I'm curious if there would be any momentum that comes from this, because so much of the rhetoric and moral/legal framing of "DEI" is parallel to or originates from "civil rights". I'd like to see that issue get forced, even if it takes a while to get anywhere.

@doctorsex lots of people on twitter are saying all civil rights has to go, now.
in 2016 no-one was saying that

@doctorsex it really depends what happens in the next 6 months. Will they get the invaders to riot in response to Texas winning the closer of Eagle Pass?

That's certainly one hell of a canary in the coal mine. Don't get me wrong, I think it's definitely a great sign, but my gut feeling is we aren't quite ready for that to not be a fringe position at this point. I give it some time between now and the next election cycle for that to be something candidates will sell their constituents on, probably like immigration from 2016-18

@doctorsex @eee here's what I say: say both civil rights is wrong, and whites are a protected class. It's making them play by their rules.

I get that from a rhetorical standpoint but what do you actually plan to get from this

@doctorsex @sickburnbro if state power is used to abuse you force state power to protect your rights and interests
