@Meemoo @poopernova i do that because pajeet and nigger """culinary""" pisses me off
all of it involves just burning the food so it's way too hot and you can't actually taste and also filling it with super spicy stuff so you taste the spiciness and not the actual food
there's nothing inherently wrong with those things in my opinion, in poor countries people often have to eat rotten meat and such and those are fair techniques to mask the taste
but calling it "culinary" is a fucking insult, pisses me off when i see restaurants selling their food

@poopernova @Meemoo fun fact: i made most of my family hate pajeets
they aren't common here so people were generally indifferent or maybe liked their food a bit
but with me sharing how bad pajeets are at every opportunity, family started actually hating them :aqua_smug:

@tiskaan @paula @Meemoo @poopernova I really have to wonder what her palate even is tbh, most Indian food at least as sold here is pretty much not spicy at all

@paula @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova Southern Italian then, considering where you ended up. I'm just genuinely really surprised to see someone refer to (North, as typically served abroad) Indian food as spicy when it doesn't even make top 10 for most utilization of spice imo. If you really want to climb the dizzying heights of the Scoville scale you have to end up resorting to some of the regional cuisines in China, Korea, and Southeast Asia and even then only resort to specific dishes within them. Otherwise pretty much everywhere is mid when they use spices and that's because people (by and large) use spices to *add* flavor and not as some kind of self imposed exercise in masochism or w/e.

@allison @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova i grew up with italian food so i guess it'd be close to that

@paula @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova >I refuse to actually taste (....) food
That certainly explains a lot of the preconceptions you have then. If you're able to eat out somewhere without spilling spaghetti and there are good Indian places in your area, I would recommend trying it out. You may find yourself very pleasantly surprised :)

@allison @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova well i refuse to actually taste indian food simply because of how nasty it is
imagine shitting on the streets, not washing hands but still using hands to cook 😭

@paula @Meemoo @poopernova @tiskaan (also the street shitter stereotype has about as much veracity abroad as gutter oil does for china, which is to say, you shouldn't let it affect you at all except if you see something really obviously shady going on)

@paula @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova Oof, yeah, that doesn't sound like a good scene at all. Probably more to do with where you are than anything else tho? Pretty much all the Indian places here (Detroit) are fine, maybe two or three that I know of are superlative.

@allison @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova the one indian restaurant in my neighborhood closed down after a food poisoning incident
i think there was another place close by but they had a rock in food incident (breaking someone's teeth), dunno what happened to it

@paula @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova near a hundred years ago people would have said the exact same thing about southern italian food lmfao, slop for "swarthy african-descended proles" prone to crime and poverty (to say nothing of how mexican food was viewed in the states until relatively recently)

@allison @tiskaan @paula @Meemoo No intelligent person would move to Canada these days so we gets all the retarded Indians who couldn't make it to the states. They bring their ethnic tensions and pack themselves 5 people per room working minimum wage for Tim Hortons

@paula @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova what is even meant by "real culinary" here anyway? not everything needs to be escoffier tier segregated, honestly, I rather like it when it isn't so that way it's both more amenable to home cooking and more interesting things can happen in the liminal space between home food and restaurant food. (not that it particularly matters for much of indian cuisine abroad anyway since a lot of it was either directly descended from mughal palace food or descended from the ritzy high class restaurant scene during the raj and immediately post independence)

@allison @tiskaan @Meemoo @poopernova eh, one hundred years ago things weren't that bad
but yeah, it's why i said it's not inherently wrong, people do what they gotta do to make food edible
maybe one day indian food could develop into actual culinary
maybe when india becomes a rich country :akko_giggle:
