      @paula @drewdevault i dont like wayland. i think it's definitely not ready to be a full scale replacement JUST yet for X but I know there are tons of people who get really hostile with you at even the slightest mention of that idea

      @paula @meso that would explain it, plasma/kwin can be flaky at the best of times. gnome works better but since it's gnome you end up dealing with the usual spat of gnome issues. personally I'm waiting for cosmic desktop as they'll probably do the first really solid and usable implementation of a wayland de that doesn't suck eggs to use.

      @meso @paula so I've heard, but the autism I have is not the kind of autism to be setting window managers up and fiddling with config files. honestly I can understand why the unix graybeards just gave up and started using macs instead.

      @paula @meso yeah to be clear I'm not the wayland evangelist in the thread, I just want a working pain-free desktop on Linux which is apparently a really tough ask these days

      @meso @paula openbox is not the workflow I'm looking for. s76 had it just about perfect with their cosmic extensions to gnome and now that they're implementing it as a real independent de that's the one I'm keeping my eyes on.

      @allison
      @paula @meso

      Xfce works fine on xorg, as messed as xorg is, on Xfce it just starts and gets out of the way. If you're gonna use Wayland I wouldn't bother trying nothing other than simple WMs and compositors because everything else is bound to suck and break just like it does on xorg, Plasma being the worst offender.

      @jihadjimmy @paula @meso yeah xfce is solid, no real complaints from when I used it even if it isn't my preferred workflow nowadays. same with mate.
