@realcaseyrollins the new lighting was an over-desk LED lamp, a standing lamp with a philips hue bulb, and the neon led rope lights, which all came in the same order.
although the 100W-equivalent Hue is more than enough to light the room on its own. i didn't expect that at the time because previous LED desk lamps were really ineffective at lighting :agummylamp:
dunno which ones i'll ultimately use at a given moment though.
the neons were a pain to get installed but they light the room evenly and it doesn't look like the depression lamp that the building came with :blobcatgoogly: -

@susie i have not tried the desk since we put the lighting up. room got a bit ransacked to make all that happen.
the over-desk light does light the desk well--but the angle i have to set it causes it to pool lighting around the top of the monitor, which is a little annoying. i might try pushing it behind but then it becomes a back scatter light instead, or maybe toss some cloth over it to diffuse the light (there are some angles that don't glare but then they shine in to your eyes.) -

@icedquinn Do you have better or worse glare on your monitors when the light comes from every direction vs from the middle of the ceiling? Looks pretty great, so thinking if I should bother setting up something similar as the only lighting in the room. -

@susie it does take a bit of fiddling to avoid glare. one position of the over-desk lamp really highlights all the dirt flecks on the monitor :blobcatterrified: -

@icedquinn I also tried to use a desk lamp few years back. I just couldn't lol The glare, or light hitting my eyes were deal-breakers. And personally I want a bright room, just without glare.
Currently I just use a three led lamp ceiling lamp thingie in the middle of the ceiling and live with the uneven lighting and glare. -

@susie
I have a hue bulb in a lamp pointing up behind my monitors. Lights the room nicely (but softly) from bouncing off the ceiling, 0% glare.
