Wes Street Streeting on the telly box right now getting a really hard time from BBC about the Labour suggestion that kids get teeth brushing lessons in school. Implication that it is a really stupid idea and could never work. I remember this happening when I was in primary school 45 years ago. My own kids got free brushes from birth and brushed in nursery and primary school. Maybe another Scottish thing I assumed was universal.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@jbenjamint my issue isn't with him. As is so often the case. My issue is with the BBC reporting. I just did a quick search to compare, and by a couple of measures, the picture seems to look better in Scotland than it does in England. Scotland was mentioned negatively in the previous story about the NHS. It was not referenced in the course of this interview where a comparison might have shown Scotland positive. It's endless.
Streeting's focus is England. Scotland isn't even on his right-wing radar. Either that or he's lifted the idea from Scotland, in which case he would never admit to where it came from....
@Roadwarrior29@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@jbenjamint@SNP I agree that they're hopeless / invisible. I also think that whatever they put out will either be ignored by the BBC or picked apart as being either wrong, stupid, or only possible because of Westminster benevolence.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@CloudyMrs@jbenjamint To be fair, I think we have to take some of the blame for this. In my opinion, the SNP Press and Media dept. is hopeless, they could do much, much better. @SNP
@jbenjamint@CloudyMrs Going back over 60 years we had The Happy Smile Club, promoted Scotland wide, we had The Tufty Club for road safety, years later we had The Green Cross Code, we had Charlie the Cat telling kids not to talk to strangers, we had Public Information Office films about level crossings, kite flying and overhead power lines. We had the Cycling Proficiency Test, promoted Scotland wide. Looking back, governments could do more but these issues had greater exposure media wise.
@adrianfry@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@jbenjamint No, but THAT would be a good place for the invisible SNP media team to start. I'd add Wales to that table because half the failures seen in the devolved nations are consistent across all nations. Just shouting that NHS, for example, is devolved and entirely the responsibility of the SNP, fails to take any comon UK decisions into account. Eg making people poorer and therefore more likely to get sick.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious@CloudyMrs@jbenjamint I too have this issue, where friends in England believe that Scotland has an utterly useless, corrupt government, and that the country's services are on the verge of collapse. The BBC, Grauniad, etc are incredibly biased.
Do you know of an online resource comparing Scotland with England that highlights the numerous successes and benefits of Scotland's policies and services?
