It’s a service issue,” explained Newell during his time on stage at the Washington Technology Industry Association's (WTIA) Tech NW conference. “The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.” - LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} likes this.

ketchup71 (ketchup71@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 08-Jan-2024 00:10:25 JST ketchup71 @clacke Sounds good, certainly the right direction. But keep in mind that price *always* is part of the equation.
No point in having a perfect service which is too expensive for customers.
Especially important to keep in mind how much of your customers income your service gobbles up. You might think customers don’t do the math, and you may be right, for a while, but you are competing for a share of that income not only with direct competitors, but with things like food and shelter.

ketchup71 (ketchup71@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 08-Jan-2024 01:44:37 JST ketchup71 @clacke I feel a bit vindicated in my decision to collect every movie I ever want to see on my own server. With all streaming services increasing prices substantially, and dropping anything interesting.
(Just got an announce from Amazon, they will serve ads in Prime Video now, unless I pony up some bags of gold. This allows them to buy more stuff I don’t want to see, like sports. Eff‘ em.)
Then again: it’s Amazon. What did I expect? A success story like Comixology? 😂🤷♂️😩

BenjaminKlein (benjaminklein@mastodon.nu)'s status on Monday, 08-Jan-2024 01:44:40 JST BenjaminKlein @clacke Piracy holds back the worst ideas and practice of the big companies and platforms, blizzard probably being the worst. There dream is a wall garden with software as a subscription.
Stream has been good for promoting Indy and Linux gaming, hope they can stay independent and don't get bought out.
