I think one of the impactful things I heard about #writing this week was from Liu Cixin, writer of the Three-Body Problem. He said that he decided not to think about how to make his writing marketable or appealing to audiences. Instead, "I will write to entertain myself."
I think that's the best way to go when it comes to writing.

Just call me Ash (ashtardeza@mas.to)'s status on Friday, 05-Jan-2024 23:15:17 JST Just call me Ash @liztai This is a really good point. I keep having to fight myself not to self-censor.
I keep thinking "people who like my novella might be freaked out by this", but that's just a dead-end road to go down.

As for me, I think I may have outgrown the genre I thought I'll always be in, and should write the stories that I want to entertain myself with. Yet, I kept stopping myself because I wanted to be a perfectionist and "complete what I started" ... when I desire to write a very different kind of story now. -
