Hypothetically, if I have cookie dough frozen since August in my freezer, that I forgot about, how much of a biohazard is it???

@Rwoeidk >Let's say, hypothetically, that your cookie dough went into the freezer while contaminated. Now, let's also assume that it was promptly put into the freezer and not allowed to stew at room temperature...
Probably fine dude. If it was in a chest or deep freezer rather than a fridge freezer, it's almost certainly fine.

@Rwoeidk Alright so here's the deal: You have a far higher chance of getting sick because of the raw flour in cookie dough than the eggs. The risk of salmonella from eggs is incredibly small, especially if they're store bought and pasteurized. Freezers slow things down (bacteria and such) incredibly, but it doesn't kill them or their toxins. If you're actually wondering if it's it safe, the rule of thumb is to pitch it. The alternative is to bake them, put them in a container with some bread while they're still warm (keeps them soft), eat a smallish piece of one, and if you get the runs throw it out. If you make it till the next day you're fine. Onset can be up to three days, but a bad enough case to be a problem (toxin load) will generally be felt right away.

@Gundog @Rwoeidk You can eat raw eggs just fine usually. They're safe in the shell. Store bought is cleaner but older, and fresh eggs are fresh, and protected by membrane which blocks salmonella and other stuff from getting into the egg. The membrane can have salmonella and such on it, but you just rinse/wipe off before cracking. The other thing is the bacteria need time to reproduce. They're not doing much in the membrane, but when they touch the egg it's game on and doubling every 40 minutes. If you put it into the fridge or freezer, it takes time to get cold and they're still reproducing, just slower until frozen and not at all.

@BowsacNoodle @Rwoeidk Isn't udon the japanese dish you see all the time in anime where they just plop a raw egg in with some noodles and stuff? Raw eggs if fresh are usually pretty safe, just not very conventional in the west to eat them raw unless you're a madlad who's just slurping them down.

@Gundog @Rwoeidk I'm giving autistic detail because it's important for food safety.

@BowsacNoodle @Gundog I've done the eating raw eggs thing many times, you just need a good ol' smell test beforehand
