@emilygorcenski you seem to know quite a bit about construction! How come?

Misuse Case (misusecase@twit.social)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Jan-2024 02:29:27 JST Misuse Case @emilygorcenski So are you getting actual hardwood or vinyl that looks like hardwood? (I don’t know what OSB means sorry.)
I replaced the wood parquet flooring in the downstairs of my house with fake-hardwood vinyl recently - it was damaged in a lot of places, some pretty badly, and with pets I figured the vinyl would be better.

Coles Street Pothole (colesstreetpothole@weatherishappening.network)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Jan-2024 04:59:06 JST Coles Street Pothole @emilygorcenski I can't figure out how that even came into being that way. And what's going on to the right of that 2x3? Is that room beyond part of an addition?

Graydon (graydon@canada.masto.host)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Jan-2024 06:48:27 JST Graydon @emilygorcenski Not falling apart is sort of step zero, yeah. So no needing to make a rapid trip to Lowe's trip for jack posts which I was wondering about from the picture.
I will admit to being a bit baffled as to how stringers would ever get that way but after seeing with my own eyes where someone notched nominal 2x12 joists about 10" deep for pipe I should be able to say "old house" to myself and acknowledge that "why" is a frequently unanswerable question.

What is that, maybe 5 feet? That's about as bad as my house - I can literally feel it walking across my living room. -

Mr. Pomegranate (verdeubled@kolektiva.social)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Jan-2024 11:51:34 JST Mr. Pomegranate @emilygorcenski Your silly flipped floors remind me of my silly flipped floors. Flippers turned the attic of my house into a second story and it turns out that was a bad plan, executed badly. Note that the top horizontal beam was cut *along its length* to fit between the old attic hardwood and the new osb subfloor. The middle one, which terminates in midair prior to the wall, was supported from underneath. The nearest one (flat 2x4 on the insulation) isn't supported...it just bounces....
