@thomasfuchs and never mind the entire context and motivation around 2A has completely changed since then as well.

Ian Douglas Scott (ids1024@fosstodon.org)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 00:34:13 JST Ian Douglas Scott @thomasfuchs Actually the 2nd amendment (like other parts of the constitution) originally only applied to the federal government. McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010) ruled it was incorporated against the states and granted a right to individuals based on... the fourteenth amendment.

Ben Summers (numbermess@bondine.social)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 02:58:18 JST Ben Summers @thomasfuchs I don't think that these folks care about intellectual honesty as any kind of standard and that calling it out would just make them laugh. It's like trying to point out where the army of the dead is wrong and really shouldn't be doing what they're doing.

NocturnalGoon (nocturnalgoon@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 03:04:31 JST NocturnalGoon @thomasfuchs I'm hoping all of this holds up under the greater scrutiny of higher courts, and that all was done with the greatest attention to detail and to the law.
Otherwise all this will achieve is place Trump on a highway to the White House. More than he already is.
Its odd to me that this is the strategy considering the incredibly shaky ground the Democrats are a year off from an election. Only way this works out is if it ends with Trump being unable to stand.

NocturnalGoon (nocturnalgoon@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 03:17:27 JST NocturnalGoon @thomasfuchs Sure, but considering every level of the judiciary is mostly partisan... its a strategy. You essentially said so yourself in arguing that the Supreme Court judges are "corrupt" (I'm assuming that's only the Republican ones right?)
I agree with the opinion Trump engaged in insurrection in 2021. I hope this can be sustained legally and he's prevented from standing.
But if he is allowed to stand, Democrats will need more than "Republicans bad" to prevent the inevitable.
