@drewdevault Meanwhile I'd nearly put something like 9front as requirement because while it's nice to have Linux support it would still be vendor-locking if documentation is under NDA. -

@lispi314 @drewdevault Well at the same time it's still pretty nice to be able to use the hardware a bit, it's just borderline proprietary. -

@lanodan @drewdevault Adding the contributions to the kernel without adequate documentation should just be forbidden.
Either you document your code properly (fuck the NDA) or you get fucked. -

Sad thing is that the target audience ranges from "wants to run retropi" to "wants to plug some LEDs into the GPIO pins" to "wants to run kodi on their TV" and never really "wants to incorporate this into any kind of long-term production system"

If every feature advertised on the product page does not work with mainline free software (be it Linux, Mesa, u-Boot, whatever), my wallet is staying firmly secured in my pocket, I'm tired of this crap

The thing about these shitty downstream SoC kernels and such is that I really just cannot maintain a system based on this crap, and whatever debian or ubuntu junk they shovel onto a microSD card is not going to meet any of my needs in terms of use-cases, so this shit is just worthless to me if it's not upstream. Complete waste of time and money every time

@drewdevault Well there's some targeted at production systems but they're really rare.
Previous dayjob used Gateworks boards and they document mainline support right on their open-access wiki but in terms of distro support it quite sucks (like I don't get why they don't upstream their buildroot defconfig).
