@allison@kaia I've seen few Teslas but those are really rare, like more rare than 70~80's cars. Cybertruck? I'd wonder if they're even legal in France.
@kaia He wasn't wrong -- the Tesla recalls are futuristic because you don't do anything but install an update. No more scheduling appointments with the dealer months in advance!
@lanodan@kaia I see a lot of Teslas where I am due to squarely being in automobile alley among rich virtue signallers but still not a single cybertruck
@allison@kaia Rich virtue signalers I don't think so but I do live right next to a bunch of auto sellers (like at least 5 shops within walking distance) and none of those seem to sell Teslas.
@allison@kaia Ah… so I guess they're lost into the horribly messy industrial areas of my city, meaning you'd need a car to go there or enjoy really slow and infrequent buses, lol.
@kaia gracias, and I shouldn't be obtuse. The "recall" is a software update OTA. The "problem" is people using devices explicitly meant to circumvent Tesla safety mechanisms while using autonomous driving (fake hands that grab the steering wheel). Relative safety numbers between human driving and automatic driving are pretty much never talked about, even though that would be the statistic to know.
@lain that makes sense. interesting arguments on how safe it must be to beat a human, seeing Tesla already claims it's safer than humans.
I'm not competent to speak on it. my only Tesla news are from Thunderf00t with a strong anti-Tesla-bias, and from Dr. KnowItAll who is an amusing Tesla-stan.
I never use autopilot, only the speed sensitive cruise control, but there are warnings and alerts at every step of the way to enable it and use it. If the steering wheel input conflicts too much with what the cameras/sensors are telling the autopilot, then an alert sounds and the dash flashes a warning that autopilot/cruise control is disabled until you stop the vehicle and park. When I bought some new fitted floor mats for mine, I saw the little steering wheel weights that are supposed to simulate a hand resting on the wheel in the "people also bought" section of Amazon.
