     @caekislove Surely part of the reason that the US cares about Taiwan is because Taiwan makes high-end chips. But if China is a real threat, why hasn't the US done better at inciting the development of high-end chips inside of its own boarders? 🤔

     @caekislove @mage True. I think even the "elites" are realizing how badly they fucked up with Covid and with Russia proving you can't run an empire without resource production. They're trying to build chip factories here, but they can't do it any time soon because it takes loads of talent and huge investments to get right.

     @pinemarten @caekislove @mage Jake Sullivan is a Clinton creature and currently works as National Security Advisor to Biden. He put out a paper recently saying in almost Trumpian terms that we have to bring manufacturing back. Obviously it's not to help the average American worker, it's for their own power, but I think they see they've gone too far even for their own sakes. But at this point it doesn't matter, because the money doesn't want that and it's far harder to rebuild America's industrial might than it was to piss it away.
