SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 01:23:20 JST SuperDicq @kaia@brotka.st I'm better off making a list of cars currently in production that I think are tolerable instead which saves us a lot of time:
* MX5 ND
* Nissan RZ34
* GR Supra
* GR86
And with all of these it is implied that you get the manual gearbox version and all unneeded electronics from the interior have been removed.kaia likes this. -

SuperDicq (superdicq@minidisc.tokyo)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Dec-2023 02:31:26 JST SuperDicq @kaia@brotka.st Yeah I'm a car person with my own garage so I can indeed keep my fleet of shitboxes running easily.
I would still recommend an older car. While you might have issues it is very often a lot cheaper to get issues fixed on older cars than on newer cars, as they are often are simpler (low labor cost) and parts are generally cheaper too.
The only thing with old cars you should really not get yourself into is things that fall outside of the realm of mechanics such as bodywork (rust and stuff). -

Lots of very simple things you can do to prevent rust but unfortunately most people do not do anything to their cars as they seem as disposable.

If salty road weather time all you gotta do is drive to your closest pressure wash station and take a few minutes to rinse it off... -

If family didnt help me get a car (which is a 2014 honda civic) id have probably gotten either a used honda civic from the early 00s or a used toyota corolla. If i had to pick an amerikkkan car it would prolly be an old crown vic. -

For my MX5 for example it's the convertible roof drain holes that often get clogged so water stays on the inside of the body panel. It's very simple to just unclog them every few months, but a lot of MX5 owners don't do this so they get rust. -

Rust is a weird one, I can't remember seeing a car with rust for 25 years here. As far as I can see, cars have not been able to rust since the mid 90s. But it is also illegal to put salt on roads here.
If you are going to buy an older car, choose a really common model.
The most popular used car here is Mazda 2 or Demio.

Especially with Civics there are certain models that are popular with ricers and you'll pay the rice tax. -
