    @db0 @kev @pluralistic the longer term future of the fediverse is so open, it is hard to tell where the most relevant risks might come from

    This wealth of disruptive possibilities might be why Zuck is interested in the first place. Keep your friends close and you enemies closer etc.

    Another reason to toy with this tech is simply keeping bored engineers happy.

    Finally it will all pay for itself if the openwashing induces various entities to go from twitter to threads and speak well of meta

      Just read this https://kevquirk.com/threads-and-the-fediverse from @kev. For me the big danger of #Threads is not adverts, or culture etc, it's the long-term dangers of allowing the biggest gateway to the fediverse to be corporate.

      There's lessons from email we should learn to avoid being all surprised pikachu a couple of years down the line

      @pluralistic has a good take here: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https://doctorow.medium.com/dead-letters-73924aa19f9d

      But you can easily find me sysadmins who gave up self-hosting email for the same reasons.

        Lots of people on Mastodon have been losing their shit over Threads joining the fediverse, so I wanted to give my opinion on this whole shit show.
