   Neat Linux tip, if you want a nice minimal way of getting a weather radar set this as a shell alias:
   
   curl https://sirocco.accuweather.com/nx_mosaic_640x480_public/sir/inmasiral_.gif | imv -
   
   Just replace imv with your image viewer of choice, and replace the "AL" inside of "inmasiral_" with your state

     @fuggy As far as I can tell, that's a GNU bash command that has nothing to do with Linux.
     
     A shorter command is; mpv --loop https://sirocco.accuweather.com/nx_mosaic_640x480_public/sir/inmasiral_.gif
     
     Ideally this would auto-update when the .gif file updates, but I'm not sure if the site signals that.
     
     Also, burn all gifs please.

     In this case, just GNU alone is correct (although it's ambiguous if you mean GNU/Hurd, GNU/Linux or GNU/Linux-libre, but it practice any ambiguity is quickly resolved by context) and that's shorter and quicker to write and say than "Linux", but it doesn't seem you care about terseness; https://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html#long2

     @fuggy I may be able to work out that people are actually referring to LiGNUx with my own knowledge, but most people cannot.
     
     The fact that there GNU even exists is surprising knowledge to most people and I like surprising people.

     @dushman Yes, the command it question will work in any POSIX confirming shell, but why would anything but the best shell be installed by default on GNU/Linux?
     
     I'm not sure if the command would even work in the original proprietary Unix shell as '-' is being defined by POSIX to mean stdin instead of a file named '-' and I'm not sure what the original Unix shell does.
     
     I tried zsh, but it simply wasn't as good as GNU bash.

     There is no such thing as a "POSIX shell", there are only shells that are POSIX conformant or POSIX compatible.
