The criminally insane deserve no rights. Once they plead insanity as a defense and are judged to be criminally insane they should be wards of the state, closely monitored and supervised for the rest of their lives. Obviously they should be sterilized as a part of this process.

@Tony @dcc Yeah it seems like these days a lot of states are trying to thread the needle between "stand your ground" and "duty to retreat", but that's simply impossible.

It's a focus on shilling the liability from the state to the individual. The state doesn't want to be responsible for "training" people to shoot. Most state run gun courses don't teach holstering or drawing because of liability.

Wanna here something really fucked up. In my state, if you get a conceal and carry license, the gun training is focused on "shoot as a last resort" and the state has a mandatory process by which it is legally allowed to shoot someone.
You are supposed to do "everything in your power not to shoot" meaning someone can break into your house and you are supposed to retreat to your room screaming "I HAVE A GUN AND IM CALLING THE POLICE" and threaten them multiple times before you are allowed to shoot - otherwise it is considered excessive force and you got to jail for killing the intruder.
If you don't have the license but still own a gun, this doesn't apply because you didn't get "the training".

@dcc They're actually dropping dead like flies in "Stand Your Ground" states. While that's certainly preferable to them owning the streets, it's also certainly more cruel than putting them into a loony bin where they will be safe and receive treatment.

The SECOND reason they should go to loony bins is to protect THEM from the criminal elements on the street who would exploit them.
The THIRD reason they should go to loony bins is that maybe a combination of psychology and drugs can "fix" their mental disorders. I dunno, though, since that field still insists that you can talk people out of being crazy.

I just think the general public shouldn't have to deal with it.
In the city near me there is a dude who has been living on the same corner for like 4 years now. He goes by "caveman" and is frequently seen flailing his arms at the local bus stop.
Like wtf, someone do something with him, he is harassing the public and shitting on the sidewalks.

I see no downside - they already stay permanently in the hospitals. Talk to any nurse and there are people who stay at the hospital for multiple years because prisons won't take them and they are too dangerous for homes.

@Tony Absolutely. Regular law-abiding citizens shouldn't have to deal with drooling insane idiots at the train station screaming at invisible demons and threatening people with rusty screwdrivers.
